The Lake Maroon Holiday Park - where strangers become friends

The park is under new ownership:  Brian, Vicki and Butch look forward to being your hosts.
Our personal commitment to our guests is that we will strive to ensure our guests receive a high quality and personal service, that our guests feel they have achieved the best deal possible and value for money spent, and that our guests have enjoyed the experience and want to come back and visit us again.

Located approximately one hour's drive from Brisbane or the Gold Coast, the Lake Maroon Holiday Park is located 20kms south of Boonah, and is situated in the heart of the Great South East Scenic Rim. Our holiday park and our huge Queenslander homesteads cater for campers and caravanners, and for social groups and families and business groups who want to use our holiday houses.   We offer 220 acres of magic scenic vistas comprising mountains, lake and bushland. Wildlife abounds.

Our guests can enjoy fishing, waterskiing, canoeing, swimming, bushwalking, camping, rock climbing, four wheel driving, hiking, rock climbing.  Other activities include country markets, winery tours and the many other attractions of the area.  The Lake Maroon Holiday Park is the ideal South East Queensland location for a break.

Campers, who visit our park, will not to find themselves crammed in closely beside other campers – whom they probably don’t even know.   We therefore always limit the numbers we admit to our park at any one time.  (For this reason advance bookings are advised). When guests visit our park they can be assured of privacy, huge camping sites, plenty of space, and beautiful and peaceful bush and water vistas.  (Please go to the camping and rates pages for further detail).

Guests with a caravan are advised to bring their own water.  Unlike city caravan parks, water is not piped to our sites.

Holiday Houses

Our Queenslander homesteads, which are located away from the camping areas, can accommodate large numbers and are an ideal venue for business and government conferences or seminars, or for social or family groups and gatherings. (Please click on the "Holiday Houses" tab (to the left of this text) for detail).   (In contrast to city venues, attendees at business and government conferences and seminars are able to take a well deserved break, and enjoy swimming and fishing or four wheel driving at the end of a working day - or they can just relax, and enjoy the environment).  (Please go to the Holiday Houses and rates pages for further detail).

Day Guests

Day guests may use the Lake Maroon Holiday Park facilities and the beach and hiking areas.   This entitles members of the public to set up a day tent on the beach, to launch their boat, swim, etc, and to generally enjoy the Lake Maroon Holiday Park environment.  In addition, the day rate fee entitles day guests to use the toilets, showers and the other facilities of the Holiday Park such as the kiosk for ice purchase, ice creams, etc.   Friends of park guests who visit the park and seek to use the facilities of the park must also pay the $7.00 per head day rate.  The day rate may be paid at the owners cabin, and should be paid prior to entry to the park.  Day guests are asked not to bring dogs or other domestic animals.  (Please go to the rates page for further detail).

Water Sports

Lake Maroon is Brisbane's the best-kept secret location for water skiing, and word has it that our lake is Queensland's best lake for water skiing.   It boasts deep, clean water, and a lot less traffic than other dams. Guests can set-up a marquee right beside the lake and water ski all day.  But Lake Maroon can also be very windy. One of the locals maintains that the wind starts in Maroon. Certainly, when the wind gets up, the lake is excellent for wind surfing.

Lake Maroon is also rated as one of Queensland's best-stocked Bass fishing impoundments.

A Note On Boat Retrieval

Finally, please keep it in mind that we have a 4WD tractor. If, when it comes time to depart, you experience difficulty in retrieving your boat, then please let us know and we will tow it out.  This is a free service we are delighted to offer our guests; and this maneuver is obviously preferable to guests almost floating their vehicle in the lake in an effort to get their boat back onto land (which has happened in the past).

220 Scenic Acres

Guests can enjoy our many bush walks and trails which encompass 220 acres of beautiful bushland and scenic vistas. Many enjoy rock climbing; and in good weather four wheel driving is permitted. (In wet weather four wheel driving is closed off, due to the danger of vehicles sliding and becoming uncontrollable). Perfectly situated amongst world heritage listed reserves Lake Maroon Holiday Park is BIGGER than most, with 220 SCENIC ACRES to explore.

The park descends down from the mountains to the shore of the lake behind Maroon Dam, providing guests with a variety of activities.

Koalas are often to be seen in the many trees covering the property, and they can often be heard calling at night.

Lots To Do Nearby

Mt Barney National Park, the Upper Portals, Mt Maroon and Mt May are just nearby.

Lake Maroon Holiday Park is ideally located on the vineyard and wine trail, and just a short scenic drive to nearby Lake Moogerah and the Queen Mary Falls.

The environment we seek to create for our guests is basically quality ahead of quantity.  We believe guests who come to camp in our park and and to stay in our holiday homes want to experience the uniqueness of the outback.

Brian, Vicki and Butch look forward to welcoming you!

Wildlife / Activities / And More

If you are lucky, you will see a Koala in one of the many nearby gumtrees, a large and old Goanna who lives in the homestead grounds waddling by, kangaroos, and numerous brightly coloured mountain birds.   We believe we offer the perfect environment for a break away from the city: swimming, skiing, mountain climbing, rock climbing, four wheel driving, and an environment where one can have a beer at the end of the day and soak up the magnificent surroundings of the Scenic Rim.
